Below, you will find a PDF of the training matrix I made for my team next year. If you are struggling to find a plan, feel free to use mine. It can also be tailored to your church if you want to change some stuff up. It is my gift to you so that you can protect those that want to worship our Lord in peace.
Why Every Church Safety Ministry Needs a Training Matrix
A well-organized training matrix is essential for any church Safety Ministry. It provides structure, ensures consistent preparation, and helps teams address both predictable and unexpected challenges. Whether your ministry is new or well-established, having a clear plan for the year’s training ensures that your team remains sharp, cohesive, and ready to respond to any situation.
What is a Training Matrix?
A training matrix is a month-by-month plan outlining the focus areas for team training sessions. It serves as a roadmap to guide your team’s development over the year, balancing essential skills like security protocols, medical response, and situational awareness. It also allows you to prioritize high-risk or high-importance areas, ensuring your team receives comprehensive preparation.
Benefits of Using a Training Matrix
Consistency: A matrix ensures your team trains regularly and builds skills systematically throughout the year.
Focus: It allows you to address critical areas like active shooter scenarios, medical emergencies, and specific security threats without overlooking any.
Team Cohesion: Regularly scheduled training fosters camaraderie and trust among team members, which is essential during emergencies.
Flexibility: While the matrix provides a framework, it can be adapted to your church’s unique needs or unexpected events.
Reproducibility: A structured plan makes it easier to replicate training for future teams or help other churches develop their own training programs.
Our 2025 Training Matrix
At Eagle Christian Church, our Safety Ministry has created a training matrix for the upcoming year. It includes a mix of security and medical topics tailored to the needs of our congregation. By focusing on areas like contacting suspicious persons, advanced firearms training, and sexual assault prevention, we aim to equip our team to handle a wide range of potential situations. On the medical side, we’ve prioritized CPR, AED use, and emergency care to ensure life-saving skills are always sharp.
While this matrix reflects the needs of our church, it’s just an example of how to structure a year’s worth of training. Your Safety Ministry may have different needs or priorities, and that’s okay. The key is to take the time to plan ahead and identify what will best serve your congregation.
Sharing Our Training Resources
Throughout the year, as I develop training outlines and scenarios for my team, I will share them with you through Christian Warrior Training. These resources will allow you to replicate or adapt the training for your own ministry if you have experienced trainers. My goal is to demonstrate how we organize our training each year and encourage other churches to do the same.
This approach not only enhances the effectiveness of your team but also fosters a network of churches that can learn and grow together in their mission to protect and serve their congregations.
Get Started
If your church doesn’t have a training matrix yet, now is the perfect time to start. Begin by assessing your ministry’s current strengths and weaknesses, and prioritize the areas that need improvement. Use our training matrix as inspiration, but feel free to tailor it to your needs. The key is to get organized, stay consistent, and build a team that is prepared for anything.
I’ll include our 2025 Training Matrix as a downloadable PDF to help you get started. Use it as a reference or as the foundation for your own plan. If you have questions or want to share your own approach, I’d love to hear from you.
Thanks Keith! Great stuff! Don't forget to practice fire/ evacuation and tornado/shelter in place. I know there is a lot to cover. Thanks for your ministry!
I am thankful this day for Keith Graves and Christian Warrior and his commitment to church security and overall his commitment to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
