Guns stolen from vehicles are becoming an increasingly common problem. From San Diego to Tampa, thieves are taking advantage of unsecured firearms left in cars. When we do scenario training, your guns must be left outside of the training area. Most people just put them in their cars and walk away. This is not a good practice.
In my recent YouTube video, I reviewed the Vault-Tec safe, a tool I recommend for securing your gun in your car. I’ve tested it myself and shared my thoughts on its effectiveness. It's not perfect—no safe will make your gun completely untouchable—but it does add a layer of security, which is better than simply leaving your firearm under the seat.
I put this safe to the test during a recent scenario training where guns weren’t allowed. The Vault-Tec safe allowed me to secure my firearm safely, and it has some great features like biometric entry and the ability to mount it in your vehicle. While someone determined could still break into it, it certainly delays them long enough to deter most thieves.
If you're serious about protecting your firearm from theft and keeping it out of the wrong hands, this is an option worth considering. Check out my full review on YouTube, where I go over all the features, how to set it up, and why I think it's a smart move for gun owners.
I'll look into that. I'm the meantime, Harbor Freight has metal lock boxes with a cable and fits under the seat for around $15-$20. The large one holds a pistol, extra mag, and knife. Travels on airlines nicely, too. When I found that, I had no excuse to leave a donation in my car for bad actors, anymore. The StopBox is a pricier but nicer plastic solution that can also accept a cable and doesn't require a key nor batteries, but I prefer the metal, keyed solution for airlines.
I have one of the vaulttecs. However, I got mine without the biometric. just another electronic thing to go wrong. I get it its convenient for some, however just like the code panel..if you forget to charge it and battery is dead youre going for a key unlock anyhow. So getting the less expensive without the biometric only made sense for me. Oh and the battery that comes with it...will last roughly 6 months before you have to recharge it.(wish it came with a battery power guage)
