Great article and training course. We can learn a lot from examples from others in this community of things they've seen and what we should look for. One that stands out was the two young men walking into the church with jugs of water. If I use that example when talking with greeters or parking teams, I follow-up with the question "What about that situation should cause you concern." One simple answer is that it was odd and that is the point. The wolves will come up with some very creative ways to try to bypass security and there will usually be some sort of trigger that gets an observer's attention. The answer or connection may not be obvious at first, but it will just seem odd. Don't disregard that gut or somethings odd feeling. Yes, learn from the examples but don't ever think we've seen it all. Go with your gut and respond appropriately.

Thank you for your ministry.

Very well explained. Thank you. The Lakewood Church review was an eye opener - here in Palm Desert, CA, professional security is impossible to obtain - they work the ritzy country clubs. Our parish has 140 families and the priest is against Active Shooter info as in “is there something they know, we don’t?” Frustrating. We have people coming in hoodies and yellow shooter glasses - angry, calling they are saints, homeless meth etc. you’ve seen it. I have a CA CCW - my concern is the million $ bullet. Have had hand gun defense training , lots of range instruction w/Glock 19-26. Is it worth the risk to others? Rhetorical. ABC

Keep your head up, Nick, and keep up the good fight. Keep training, always be carrying, and keep looking after the flock.

I wonder if you have church security info pointed at the small churches, for example churches with less than 100 in regular Sunday attendance. (A friend goes to one that regularly has 25 in attendance). Frankly, small churches do not have resources to do much of anything. Small churches might be lucky to have a few concealed carriers. It might be helpful to prioritize the “must do’s”.

By the way, thanks for your video on the Lakewood shooting. What an eye opener!
